It’s always exciting when a major player like IKEA prepares to launch new products in the smart home market, especially when we get a sneak peek behind the scenes. Thanks to a recent “leak,” that’s exactly what has happened: images of eight previously unannounced smart home devices have surfaced, confirming that the Swedish furniture giant is planning a major offensive for early 2026.
The Familiar Devices, but with a New Look
The photos, obtained by the German site ifun.de, feature several products we’ve already heard about, as they have received Matter certification and are listed in the Distributed Compliance Ledger (DCL) database. What’s completely new, however, is their design.

- Bilresa smart switch: A two-button switch that also features a scroll wheel, promising versatile control.
- Timmerflotte temperature and humidity sensor: A must-have for every smart home, now with an IKEA design.
- Alpstuga air quality monitor: The successor to the previous Vindstyrka model, with what appears to be a cleaner, more modern design.
- Myggspray wireless motion sensor: The name choice (“mosquito repellent”) is brilliant, but the product itself is also interesting. Instead of the previous square Vallhorn, it has a rounder, more discreet design.

These devices sound great on their own, but the best is yet to come!
The Two Big Surprises: The Outdoor Smart Plug is Here!
Undoubtedly, the most exciting parts of the leak are the completely new products.

- Tofsmygga outdoor smart plug: Finally! So many of us have been waiting for this. A massive, weatherproof outdoor smart plug that will allow us to integrate our garden lighting, irrigation systems, or Christmas lights into our smart home. Based on the images, it looks like a robust and reliable device.
- Grillplats indoor smart plug: This is essentially an upgraded, rounder, and perhaps more compact version of the popular Tretakt plug. It will be perfect for smartening up indoor lamps and smaller appliances. (Although, I have my doubts about its suitability for power strips.)
- Myggbett door and window sensor: While this product category isn’t new for IKEA (think of the Parasoll model), Myggbett will be an updated, likely more reliable and Matter-compatible version, which is essential for a complete security and automation system.
What Does This Mean for the Future?
The newly leaked devices perfectly illustrate that IKEA is not just expanding its existing portfolio (lighting, speakers) but is also entering new areas that users have long been waiting for. On the Swedish market, they have always had products intended only for domestic use that complemented their portfolio with Swedish specificities (like a main water shut-off valve), but it’s been a while since they introduced new product categories to the international market. The outdoor smart plug is a much-needed product, and the new designs indicate that they are listening to customer feedback.
The exact release date and prices are not yet known, but they are expected to arrive as part of a wave of over twenty new products promised for early 2026. What’s certain is that thanks to their Matter compatibility (Matter-over-Thread), these devices will be seamlessly integrated into most major smart home ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Homey, Home Assistant).
The Swedish giant is clearly serious about conquering the market.
